Away in a Manger

Away in a Manger

Away in a Manger

(Verses 1 & 2, were written by an anonymous author, Some sources show the author as Martin Luther; this attribution (probably incorrect) is based on the title 'Luther's Cradle Hymn,' given to these words by the composer, James Murray. Verse 3 is by John Thomas McFarland (1851-1913).

Thanks to Richard W. Adams for doing this research.

'Mueller,' James R. Murray, 1887.)

Lyrics:

[G] Away in a manger, no [C] crib for a [G] bed,

 The little Lord Jesus laid down His sweet [D] head.

The [G] stars in the sky looked [C] down where He [G] lay,

The [G] little Lord Jesus, [D] asleep on the [G] hay.

The cattle are lowing, the Baby awakes,

But little Lord Jesus, no crying He makes;

I love Thee, Lord Jesus, look down from the sky

 And stay by my cradle til morning is nigh.

Be near me, Lord Jesus, I ask Thee to stay

Close by me forever, and love me, I pray;

Bless all the dear children in Thy tender care,

And take us to heaven to live with Thee there.

Happy Holidays Everyone.

The First Noel

The First Noel

The First Noel
Lyrics [guitar chords]:

[D] The first Noel the [G] angel did [D] say,
Was to [G] certain poor [D] shepherds in fields as they lay;

In fields where they lay [G] keeping their [D] sheep,
On a [G] cold winter's [D] night that was [A] so [D] deep.

[D] Noel, [Bm] Noel, [G] Noel, [D] Noel,
[G] Born is the [D] King of Is [A] ra [D] el

They looked up and saw a star
Shining in the east, beyond them far,

And to the earth it gave great light,
And so it continued both day and night.

Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel,
Born is the King of Israel

And by the light of that same star
Three Wise Men came from country far;

To seek for a king was their intent,
And to follow the star wherever it went.

Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel,
Born is the King of Israel

 Then let us all with one accord
Sing praises to our heavenly Lord

Who hath made heaven and earth of naught,
And with His blood all mankind hath bought.

Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel,
Born is the King of Israel

Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel,
Born is the King of Israel

Happy Holidays Everyone.

I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day

I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day

Lyrics [guitar chord]:

[D] I heard the bells on [A] Christmas day

[D] Their old familiar [A] carols play,

[D] And wild and sweet the [Bm] words [G] repeat

[D] Of peace on earth, good [A] will to [D] men.

I thought how, as the day had come,

The belfries of all Christendom

Had rolled along th' unbroken song

Of peace on earth, good will to men.

And in despair I bowed my head

'There is no peace on earth,' I said,

'For hate is strong and mocks the song

Of peace on earth, good will to men.'

Then pealed the bells more loud and deep:

'God is not dead, nor doth He sleep;

The wrong shall fail, the right prevail

With peace on earth, good will to men.'

Till ringing, singing on its way

The world revolved from night to day,

A voice, a chime, a chant sublime

Of peace on earth, good will to men.

Happy Holidays.
